Talking to a counsellor freely,
confidentially and without being judged or criticised allows feelings to be
uncovered and understood.
Essentially, counselling is a purposeful
relationship in which the therapist helps the client to understand their world better and to help him or her self. The aim of counselling is to provide a new perspective through active and supportive listening.
Psychotherapy is the application
of psychological principles to the treatment of those who are experiencing a
disorder that is of psychological origin, or that is triggered or worsened by
psychological factors.
Often things trouble us and we can't understand
why. It may be that we have forgotten things which happened in childhood
which have resulted in adult fears that we can't explain.
Psychotherapy
can help us to find out about the origin of our fears or behaviours, which helps
us to deal with them.
